1) Support test planning, test configuration setup and test execution in an avionics environment.

2) Support the development of acceptance test demonstrations and the integration and checkout of avionics systems.

3) Develop detailed test procedures and configuration definition needed to perform the test within the constraints of the (MAF) Detailed Acceptance Test Plan.

4) Develop electrical ground support equipment XML test data sets that support communication to/from avionics systems.

  • Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years’ experience, Master's degree with 6 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Extensive, specialized knowledge of mission system/payload, and avionic integration testing principles and techniques, both in the laboratory and in the SLS vehicle.
  • Works independently.
  • Plans research and development programs and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives associated with electronic, electrical or software test programs.
  • Knowledge across a wide range of electronic, electrical, software engineering disciplines (e.g. analog and digital circuit design, electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) electrical design, embedded software and microprocessor based system designs, radar and electronic countermeasure ECM design, open and closed loop feedback control systems, and associated test instrumentation.
  • Extensive, specialized knowledge of test software processes such as requirement analysis, code development, verification and validation, and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of electronic, avionic, and embedded software integration laboratory (SIL) setup, and associated hardware and software test processes.
  • Extensive, specialized knowledge of programming languages, scripts, hardware and software integration, software configuration and development tools.
  • Extensive, specialized knowledge of computing security and system and software accreditation.
  • Advanced, expert knowledge of test article/vehicle configuration control procedure required to prepare for a given test. This requires the use of configuration control management process to track and maintain article/vehicle configuration.
  • Advanced, expert ability to configure the test article using test requirements gathered from test plans, government regulations, and safety rules.
  • Advanced, expert knowledge of Test Program Design (TPD) of Systems (aircraft, satellite, etc.), System of Systems, and product (e.g. key tenants of a test program during the program life cycle) and the process of establishing and integrating the TPD within the program master phasing plan via various program and test program review.
  • Generic understanding of various test categories (Environmental, Structural, Mechanical, Aerodynamics, Electrical, software, etc.). This Advanced, expert knowledge includes high-level test SOW (test plans), resources (people, skills, facilities, equipment), sequencing and estimating.
  • Advanced, expert ability to identify the (existing or missing) test processes required to effect a test program based on the unique contracting and teaming relationships that exist on a program.
  • Advanced, expert knowledge across a wide range of engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical design, electrical design, fluid power systems, propulsion/fuel systems, environmental conditioning, control theory, and test instrumentation).
