Provide main propulsion systems engineering expertise to the MSFC Main Propulsion Systems Branch (ER22) in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) Block 1B Vehicle.


    • Attend Element-level technical interchange, project planning, design review and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities.


    • Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete assigned action items. 


    • Support relevant Element and vehicle trade studies, affordability improvement activities, and other studies focused on improving overall EUS planning, integration and operations.


    • Support the development/review of key MPS engineering products for EUS systems engineering/design reviews.


    • Support technical integration across multiple SLS sister programs, diverse engineering and program/project organizations, and a variety of engineering disciplines such as propulsion, structures, manufacturing, and avionics and power, with a focus on integration with the EUS engines and the ground operations community.


  • Participate in program reviews, meetings, technical performance meetings, teleconferences, task teams, and working groups to enable end-to-end integration and documentation of the EUS baseline.


  •  Degree in aerospace, mechanical, chemical engineering, or other technical discipline from an ABET-accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., a minimum of a Masters with at least 2 years of experience, or BS with at least 6 years of experience.

    Experience or training in propulsion or vehicle system characterization, requirement definition, functional design, and/or design integration, analysis or modeling

Knowledge of complex system end-to-end vehicle subsystem or component development ranging from requirements development, functional design, interface integration, hardware integration, and verification that ultimately lead to flight certification is desirable


    • Must be familiar with Systems Engineering requirements and processes


    • Knowledge of fluid system modeling techniques and software tools desirable


    • Knowledge of system emulation or software requirement definition desirable


    • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills are required


    • Personnel are required to be self-motivated, team players familiar with working in a dynamic work environment


    • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office tools and be able to create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets, Power-Point presentations, and Word documents is required


  • Understanding and knowledge of current SLS program plans, architecture and strategy is desired
