Responsible for the development of test procedures and test scripts that are used to fully exercise the functionality of the avionics subsystem.


Specific duties to include but not limited to:


  • Research specific rocket functionality in the areas of avionics and electrical systems and develop a detailed understanding of how the functionality is intended to work based on specifications and drawings.
  •   Develop an approach to drive the necessary testing through the use of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) which connects to the core stage rocket through a series of external interfaces, and uses simulated capability to drive the interfaces and then collects responses and data from the vehicle for analysis and verification. 
  • The EGSE provides a scripting interface in XML and the test engineer will need to become proficient with that scripting capability to be able to effectively test the vehicle. 
  • In that capacity, prior experience with test scripting and XML and/or other software experience would be considered to be a major asset in selecting the proper candidate.
  •   The test engineer will be responsible for the development of his own scripts and for defining the custom displays required on the EGSE for test execution. 
  • Required to dry run and demonstrate that his procedures, scripts and displays successfully execute in both our Avionics Integration Lab and the NASA Systems Integration Laboratory.
  •  Candidate must be able to handle export controlled data and perform NASA safety sensitive functions.  Position will be located at Boeing facility at the Gateway with significant work down at the Redstone Arsenal in Building 4205.

  • Prior experience working with rocket systems, propulsion and hydraulic systems, space systems, avionics systems, and performing functional and/or acceptance test would all be considered to be assets for this position.
  •   Experience with messaging standards such as 1553, RS422, RS485, IRIG and ethernet is desireable. 

 Minimum technical skills required to satisfactorily perform the above tasking would require:


  • P3’s BSEE + 5 years or MSEE + 3 years as minimum requirement
  • P4s BSEE+10 years or MSEE + 7 years.
  • This is a non-management, engineering position
