The Vice President of Aerospace & Defense Engineering (ADE) is accountable for the performance of all engineering related activities across the country by providing strategic technical leadership and establishing and directing all aspects of the business unit’s engineering policies, objectives, and initiatives based on long-term project and profitability goals.

The ADE leader’s primary responsibility is to lead a team to build on current customer relationships and partnerships and develop new ones. This person will lead an organization and foster a culture to be responsive to customer requirements and innovative in solutions, develop ideas for new projects, work with the Chief Technology Officer to enable technology advancement through strategic investments that grows portfolio, and further distinguish Geocent with the diverse client base.

This position is also responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the business unit’s strategic goals and operational plans. Collaboration with the VP for Enterprise Technology Solutions and the Chief Strategy Officer will be expected to identify and capture new business worldwide.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to the sector Engineering functions. Monitor and track all Engineering Initiatives throughout ADE to ensure a chain of accountability
  • Plan and execute project development, from formulation to production
  • Foster IRAD investments and ensure projects are properly defined in scope, aligned with the business unit strategy, and properly resourced
  • Drive technical excellence in the performance of Engineering tasks, which includes adherence to the schedule and budget allocated to these tasks
  • Develop relationships within Geocent to define, develop and leverage our core competencies to meet critical business needs
  • Build and lead the cross functional engineering organization dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Engineering team
  • Represent the Engineering function to articulate and advocate for the positions advanced by Engineering staff to corporate
  • Understand the SBIR process and be familiar with technology to guide proposers
  • Work with the Engineering Management Team to conduct ongoing skills assessment and proactively address potential skills gaps. Lead and mentor the engineering management team to continue to develop strong technical leaders
  • Act as objective decision maker for high level / high impact engineering issues within the business unit
  • Be technically competent to advise and guide project leads
  • Provide technical reviews of key strategic proposals
  • Work to realize Geocent 2020 and beyond strategic goals
  • Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within the department and across the business unit
  • Develop a climate within the business unit to foster a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitment. Oversees staffing plans and reviews work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and funding
  • Represent organization with major customers and stakeholders
  • Write or encourage employees to write technical white papers to educate Engineering talent
  • Provide summaries to complex technical problems to a non-technical audience that includes customers and government senior leadership
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and exhibitions that are aligned with sector growth strategy
  • All other duties as assigned


The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements and geographically disperse staff seamlessly while using analytical and strategic skills to successfully win business and transition products into production. The VP of ADE must be able to interact with business unit peers, technical leaders, corporate staff, and diverse customers. The successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who can focus simultaneously on near and long-term objectives.

  • Bachelors of Science is required – Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Masters Degree Preferred - Science, Engineering Management, or equivalent
  • Must have 15+ years’ work experience in a similar role or equivalent
  • Secret Clearance preferable, but not required

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Program/Project Management - Ability to coordinate and administer programs, activities and protocols. Ability to manage resources, monitor activities and assess environmental risk, safety, and quality control associated with the program.
  • Professional Knowledge - Advanced level of technical engineering skill/knowledge and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Leadership – Demonstrated skills and abilities needed to coordinate, facilitate, and participate in a collaborative approach to the completion of tasks or assignments. Leadership of cross functional teams within an R&D or equivalent dynamic environment is preferred.
