    Responsibilities

    Primary job duties include engaging with propulsion system development teams to provide insight on structures, as well as producing independent analytical assessments. In addition, you will provide input for development of plans and schedules, assigning task work and tracking progress, development and delivery of reports and presentations, and collaboration with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of integrated flight hardware and Ground Support Equipment.

    Qualifications

    • BS degree (MS preferred) from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering, or Engineering Mechanics with an emphasis in structural analysis required. Candidates with a BS degree and equivalent experience in another engineering discipline will also be considered. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Masters with at least 23 years of experience, or BS with at least 25 years of experience.
    • A minimum of 20 years experience in the application of finite element methods, empirical closed-form structural analysis techniques, and the assessment of failure mechanisms is required. 
    • Familiarity with one or more major commercial finite element code such as PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS is required. 
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 
    • Familiarity with NASA standards and MSFC Specifications, as well as qualification / certification requirements and processes associated with rocket propulsion systems and man-rated vehicles is highly desired.
